HOLY Trinity Church in Malvern is celebrating the arrival of its new organ with a weekend of performances, writes Bethany Lewis.

And tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, January 13, will see the first perfomances on the new organ following the completion of the project.

Among those taking centre stage will be ex-local boy Liam Cartwright as well as the church’s ‘Augmented’ choir and organist.

Liam kicks off the weekend of celebrations giving an organ recital at 2.30pm.

Liam who was born in Worcestershire now lives in Oxford and is Director of Music at High Wycombe Parish Church.

He gives organ recitals all over the country.

Tickets to see Liam cost £10 (free for under 18s) with all proceeds from the concert going to Christian Aid.

Charles Pavey, Organist and Choirmaster at Holy Trinity said: “I first knew Liam in the early years of this century when he played the piano for Malvern Light Opera Society which I conducted at the time.

“Although Liam was still to start Higher education in London he was already establishing himself as a well-respected musician in and around Malvern.”

The fund-raising drive ran from September 2017 to collect cash for the church’s a new organ.

The total needed was reached within a year and have their new organ installed in time for Christmas.

Bill Colbourne, organist at Holy Trinity, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported the project and made it possible and hope people will join us over the weekend.”

The celebrations continue on Sunday with a service at 10:30am by Archdeacon of Wocester, Robert Jones.

This will be followed by a performance from Holy Trinity’s ‘Augmented’ Choir, conducted by Charles Pavey.

Both he and Bill Colbourne will take their turn at the organ seat before concluding the service with a celebratory duet.
