A LONG serving Malvern PCSO has praised new recruits to the force for ‘evolving’ and ‘growing’ into ‘competent’ and ‘valued’ members of the team as he reflects on helping tutor them in their new roles.
PCSO Kevin Tudge volunteers to tutor new PCSO recruits on the Malvern Safer Neighbourhood Team alongside his usual responsibilities and has taken the time to sing their praises online.
New PCSO recruits are paired up with PCSO Tudge for six weeks following their initial training, where they are helped to develop basic skills and further supported to improve in their new roles over the first year.
PCSO Tudge has been a member of Malvern Police for 17 years and spoke of his continued enjoyment in ‘helping to keep the community of Malvern safe.’
He said: “Over the last few years, along with my own work load, I have volunteered to tutor new PCSO’s who have joined the Malvern Safer Neighbourhood Team. “I will accompany them, helping
them to develop their initial basic skills, then further helping them to evolve and grow within the role.
“Tutoring is rewarding as they develop into confident and competent members of the team, sometimes going on to become Police Officers.
“They are all valued members”.
PCSO is an acronym of Police Community Support Officer and they have different responsibilities to traditional police officers.
PCSO’s can issue fixed penalty notices, demand the name and address of someone being anti-social and take alcohol off a person under the age of 18. They can also ask a police officer to arrest someone.
