Looking for a new Conservator

Malvern Editorial 2nd Apr, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

AN ELECTION is to be held to appoint a new member to the board of the Malvern Hills Conservators.

Residents from the parish of Mathon on the west side of the hills in Herefordshire will get the chance to select a new person after the previous member resigned in recent weeks for an undisclosed reason.

The Conservators are currently in talks with the district council over the date the election will take place which will be announced in the near future.

Prospective candidates have been urged to declare their interest or residents from the parish can choose to nominate someone they think will suit the role.

Members of the Conservators sit on the board for four scheduled meetings of the year as well as special meetings which are arranged to discuss urgent business.

They will also sit in on either the Land Management Committee or Finance, Administration and Resource Committee depending on their particular skills or previous work experience. As a charity the Conservators can also provide trustee training.

Although only residents of Mathon can vote in the forthcoming election the winning candidate will have no electoral responsibilities to the area like district councillors do. They along with the other 28 members of the board represent the collective area spanning some 3,000 acres of land which the charity governs.

Fiona Macklin from the Conservators, said: “It is a great opportunity to be involved with the management of the Malvern Hills.”

Anyone interested should contact Fiona at [email protected] or on 01684 892002.
