TWO dogs managed to escape the clutches of  thieves who tried to dump them in the boot of a car.

The incident happened about 4.40pm yesterday (Tuesday) in Cradley when two cars, one a silver Mazda or Toyota saloon and the other simply described as a white car, came down the driveway at Mill House.

The man driving the first car, aged in his late 30s or early 40s and dressed in a camouflage jacket, said they were looking for Wychford End and when he was given directions by the resident he turned around and left.

About ten minutes later the resident realised his two lurcher dogs were missing and shortly after the neighbour’s gardener said he seen the dogs been grabbed and put in the boot of a car.

He said following a struggle they escaped and later on the owner managed to find them safely.

The incident has been reported by Neighbourhood Watch which is yet to have a crime reference for the attempted theft. But anyone with information should still call police on 101 or pass information on to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111.
