Maggs charity launches new drop-in centre for homeless in Malvern

A WORCESTERSHIRE charity has launched a drop-in service in Malvern to support the homeless and those at risk of homelessness.

Maggs Day Centre’s new drop-in service will be held at The Lyttelton Well, Church Street, Malvern every Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm.

The drop-in service will primarily be for people experiencing homelessness, whether this be rough sleeping, hidden homelessness such as sleeping in their cars or sofa surfing, or those who are vulnerable and need tailored support.

Sharon Billington, outreach worker at Maggs Day Centre, said: “I am excited to start our first Outreach drop-in service in Malvern.

“Not only does this offer my service users a consistent place to seek support, whether to talk to other agencies, book appointments, welfare checks and much more, but even if it’s just a safe place to come for a simple chat, it can make all the difference.

“I have built fantastic relationships with service users in Malvern and made excellent progress, which will be another positive stepping stone for people to access the help they need alongside our day centre.”

The charity already opens their Malvern Day Centre twice a week, where service users can receive a cooked breakfast, tailored support, receive food donated from local supermarkets and access drop-in’s from other organisations such as the NHS health bus.

The role of the charity’s outreach team is to engage directly with service users to build that trust, provide pathways and support people off the streets, whether to encourage them to access our day centres.

They even deliver clothes and food to their tent if that is what the individual requires.

Simon, charity development Leader, said: “The Lyttelton Well is delighted to be hosting Maggs.

“We’re excited about extending the arm of compassion and support to the homeless community of Malvern through the work that Maggs faithfully does.”We hope that this will be the start of a long partnership of the two organisations and that we can find new ways of supporting those in need together, in the future.”
