Major changes to car parking costs proposed in Malvern

Malvern Editorial 27th Feb, 2024   0

MALVERN Hills District Council could introduce alterations to car park times and charges, marking the first adjustment to most of these tariffs in over a decade.

Among the proposed changes is the extension of the maximum waiting period from two to three hours in car parks, including Belle Vue Terrace, Edith Walk, Grange Road North and South.

Vehicles displaying a valid disabled person’s blue badge will have an extended three-hour limit across all sites.

The council is considering raising the cost of a 24-hour stay in certain car parks from £3 to £4.

Locations including the Council House, Victoria Road, Hanley Road, New Street, Priory Road North, Priory Road South, and Teme Street car parks.

There is a proposal to increase the cost of the evening operating hours tariff from £1.50 to £2 at all car parks, as well as a rise in the cost of resident annual two hour permits from £25 to £30 per year.

The council said the costs of the 50p one-hour and £1 two-hour tickets will remain frozen.

Councillor John Gallagher, portfolio holder for resources at Malvern Hills District Council said: “I understand that these proposals may be both welcome and unwelcome to drivers across the district.

“The council hasn’t reviewed some of these car park charges since 2012 and the amendments will help continue to provide important services to residents.

“We are also keeping the one and two hour tariffs unchanged on every car park, at the cheapest levels anywhere in Worcestershire.”

Any objections should be made before the deadline at 12pm on March, 28.
