MALVERN Hills District Council is encouraging people to make a pledge to become a more responsible dog owner and reduce dog fouling in the region.
Dog owners can sign up to the Green Dog Walkers (GDW) scheme as a friendly way to help change attitudes about dog fouling across the Malvern Hills district.
Taking the pledge means promising to clean up after your dog, carry extra dog waste bags, be happy to be approached to led a dog waste bag to someone without, and to be a friendly reminder to other walkers to clean up after their dogs.
Members of the council’s community and environmental protection officers (CEPO) team have recently been out and about setting an example to pledgers and putting down dog fouling reminders in the area.
A spokesperson for the council said: “If you are passionate about being a responsible dog owner and about keeping our district clean, take a look at the Green Dog Walker Pledge.”
The scheme also supports the Public Space Protection Order, which enables the council to enforce fixed penalty notices for dog fouling, in compliance with The Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
GDW is a national scheme that has previously won the UK Kennel Club Dog Recognition Award, featured at Crufts, and was a finalist for the CIWM Innovation in Waste Management Award.
