Malvern artists opening their doors for annual Worcestershire Open Studios

Malvern Editorial 12th Aug, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

ARTISTS across Malvern are opening their doors to the public this August bank holiday for the second annual Worcestershire Open Studios event.

Residents will have the chance to discover the town’s artistic talent and talk to artists about the inspiration behind their creations from Friday, August 26 to Monday, August 29.

Studios across the region will showcase the very best paintings, printmaking, glasswork, photography, pottery, jewellery and textiles.

Dora Williams, whose current work is based on the human form, is opening one of 17 venues across the Malvern Hills district and tutors at Malvern School of Art are joining together to put on a large exhibition featuring more than 200 pieces of artwork, including bookbinding, stained glass, silver jewellery and printmaking.

Also taking part in Malvern are figurative painters Alison Chambers, Trudi Foggo and Avril Spickernell.

Further afield in Leigh Sinton, self-taught artist Steve Letchford will share paintings and drawings of buildings and landscapes observed during his travels across the UK and in Upton-upon-Severn, husband and wife Gerald and Janice Savine, will share an array of work inspired by railways and botany.

Visitors who explore five or more studios will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw for £100 to spend on artwork by the artists.

Painter Penny Vere said: “It’s great to be part of an event where you can meet other artists and people who like looking at and talking about paintings. Visitors can see work in progress, sketches and all sorts in the studio.”

Cherrie Mansfield, one of the event organisers said: “Worcestershire Open Studios is a great opportunity to meet local artists and see a wide range of fantastic talent right here in our county.

“Whether you’re an art lover or have never set foot in a gallery, you’ll receive a warm welcome.”
