Malvern arts society presents church with full furnishing records

Malvern Editorial 9th Jul, 2018   0

MEMBERS of the Arts Society Malvern Hills presented the Church of the Ascension with a comprehensive record of its furnishings.

This has taken a group of around ten volunteers several years of meticulous work to produce.

It covers all aspects of metalwork, stonework, pictures, textiles, windows and memorials.

The written record has been enhanced by photographing all the items and conducting background research, both online and at the Diocesan Record held at The Hive in Worcester, which has added much interesting and previously unknown material.

The church was built in 1902 and is a small masterpiece of the period, including items from some of the leading craft workers and companies of the Arts & Crafts movement.

Rev Philip Johnson expressed his gratitude for the work of the recorders, who were rewarded by the presentation of a cake.

Copies of the records have been given to the church itself and are on their way to the Victoria and Albert Museum, Historic England, Church Care as well as The Hive where they will be available for inspection in due course.
