A MALVERN-based charity is calling on village hall committees across Herefordshire and Worcestershire to take part in a project to get more young volunteers involved in the community.
As part of Volunteers’ Week, which started last Friday, Community First wants to help village halls reach out to those aged between 16 and 25 to get them to join the nearest group.
Richard Timney, Community First’s village hall advisor, said: “Village halls are the cornerstone of many villages.
“They are run by small groups of dedicated volunteers, without whom the halls would shut and community activity which brings people together would be lost.
“Serving for a short while on a village hall committee can be very rewarding.
“You meet new people, feel involved in your community, learn about charities and simple meetings and help put on events, simultaneously gaining valuable skills and experience to strengthen your CV or University application.
“New young volunteers will be supported to make sure they get the most out of their experience.”
