Malvern-based charity WMYDMYB launches new creche

A MALVERN-based charity which helps families and children with special needs has officially launched its new creche.

The What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful (WMYDMYB) premises, based at Howsell Road, is open from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 4.30pm.

The creche will run all year and is staffed by those who have a keen interest in special and additional needs.

Sessions are available for those aged between two and 16 and can last from two hours to all day, even during the school holidays.

WMYDMYB was founded by Kim Philpotts, a nurse practitioner in Stourport, in 2013 after finding parenthood with a child with special needs can be a lonely and daunting time.

She said: “I feel this will be a lifeline to so many people.

“Just being able to have a coffee with a friend and do the shopping can be a huge sensory overload for some children so being able to offer them a safe environment can help so many families.”

Kim wanted to be able to increase the awareness of family experiences and support packages available.

The purpose-equipped centre features a sensory room with an interactive floor mat and lights, a large soft play area and computer games for the older age groups.

WMYDMYB has also been able to launch an outreach service with the help of £49,470 from ITV’s People’s Project.

Outreach support workers help families in their own homes to meet their needs.

Both of these brand new unique services are available to families across South Worcestershire and mean families can access complete wrap-around support from the charity.
