Malvern brigade goes from strength to strength

Malvern Editorial 2nd Jun, 2017   0

THE MALVERN Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade continues to flourish as the nameplate goes into its 95th year.

Next year, the first Boys’ Brigade will celebrate its 30th year of operation since reforming in 1988 while the seventh Girls’ Brigade will enter its ninth year.

While both units operate independently, they co-operate in many areas including activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Since 1992 the boys’ and girls’ brigade have achieved a total of 269 awards (109 bronze, 97 silver and 63 gold).

The brigades are also well known in the town for their drum, fife, bells and bugle marching band.

This year the two bands paraded at the same time but in different locations for the annual Scout Associations St George’s Day parades in Worcester and Malvern.

Some of the brigade’s older members will take part in a band tour in the Northern England during the autumn half term this year, visiting York, Blackool and Manchester.
