Malvern Buzzards Running Club celebrates six years of trailblazing

Malvern Editorial 26th Oct, 2023   0

A POPULAR Malvern running club celebrated their sixth birthday doing what they love most – running and socialising.

Malvern Buzzards Running Club rounded off their sixth anniversary with a 5km run from Rosebank Gardens in the town centre to Buzzard Crescent and back, before heading to The Nook at The Great Malvern Hotel – where the club was originally founded in 2017.

Over 30 members, accompanied by graduates of the groups free couch to 5k programme, took part in the run down some of the lesser known backstreet footpaths and trails.

A number of the ‘founding fathers’ of the group joined members at the hotel to recreate an original photo, which marked the formation of the club six years ago.

Club chair, Alice Dyson, said: “It is amazing to think how much has been achieved by the Buzzards over the past six years.

“From a small group of about 25 the club had grown and had over 200 members each year since.

“The Buzzards, individual members and the club, have had success in many races, including some Worcestershire county championship races.

“The club’s informal motto, BOTHO, means you are what you are because of those around you, and that is especially true of the Buzzards, so I would like to thank all our members, and especially our volunteers for Buzzarding.”

New member, Paul Chappell, said: “I moved to Malvern and a few weeks later, found out about the Malvern Buzzards.

“I decided to be brave and join to meet people and to maximise my running opportunities.

“Both objectives have been well and truly met. A friendly, sociable club with so many options – I love it.”
