Malvern care assistant braves the shave for Macmillan

A KIND-HEARTED staff member of a Malvern care home has braved the shave for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Residents, staff, family and friends gathered at Hastings Residential Care Home, on Barnards Green Road, as senior care assistant Karen Dalton courageously took on a sponsored head shave.

Karen has been a great advocate and fund-raiser for Macmillan Cancer Support for a number of years as it is a cause close to her heart.

All her efforts are in loving memory of her father Colin Bird who died in 2001 of throat cancer and her late husband Terry who also passed away due to cancer 12 years ago.

Karen, who has worked at the home for over six years, said: “I am always looking for ways to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as the support they provide to individuals and families is truly a lifeline in your darkest days.”

Fellow senior care assistant Teresa Arnold, who was in charge of the clippers, added: “I am so proud of Karen, she is so brave.

“It was wonderful to be a part of such an inspiring event.”

Already having raised more than £300 with much of the sponsorship money still coming in, Karen has been overwhelmed with the support so far.

Brave the Shave is a national campaign raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It has seen thousands of people ‘braving the shave’ and standing proudly with people who are living with or have been affected by cancer.
