A CARE home in Malvern is all set to host an event to celebrate Pride this month.
Malvern’s Elgar Court care home is proud to announce it will be hosting a Pride Day on Sunday (June 22) from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Residents, staff and the local community are expected to come together to enjoy a full day of entertainment, cakes and handcrafted cocktails.
Malvern Ukelele band will round of the celebrations, as attendees can try a cocktail and some canapes whilst enjoying the music.
The event coincides with pride month (June 1 to 30) which recognises the influence LGBT people have around the world.
June was chosen because that is when the Stonewall Riots took place back in 1969. Known as the ‘Mother of Pride’, it was Brenda Howard who coordinated the first LGBT Pride March, as well as sparking the idea for a week of events around Pride Day.
These events then developed into the annual LGBT celebrations held every June.
Elgar Court’s Sarah Cadwallader, senior general manager and Malvin Hobbs, community support lead, said: “Our residents love to watch all kinds of different shows and performances so the diversity offered by Pride Month has been perfect – there is something for everyone.
“We value inclusion and diversity and being able to extend this invitation to the local community with the inclusivity of Pride Month.”
