A CARE home in Malvern is calling out for all green fingered residents to join them in their community allotment project this spring.
Elgar Court Residential Care Home on St Andrews Road is launching the project to help bring everyone together by setting up an allotment in their back garden to grow anything they want.
Hopes for the project include growing new friendships and relationships within the community as well as fresh produce.
All donations to help this project are welcome, and everyone is encouraged join in to help plant, grow and enjoy the fruits of their efforts.
Sarah Cadwallader general manager at Elgar Court Residential Care Home said: “Gardening and outdoor activities are ideal for encouraging residents to be physically active and engaged.
“Our Residents really benefit from spending time in the garden as it lowers blood pressure, provides exercise, improves motor skills, relieves stress, and helps with much more.
“This really will is a community opportunity to spend time with us and grow something special together.”
The home carefully curates its outdoor spaces with residents in mind. Modifications are made to allow residents, families and friends to enjoy a spot of gardening with raised beds, wide paths, wild areas, use of ergonomic tools, low maintenance plants and a wide selection of seating areas.
A resident Peter (pictured) was the first to dig up some turf at the new allotment, marking the start of the community project.
He said: “I am looking forward to seeing how our garden grows, and I will enjoy being outside and watching our garden spring into life.”
Peter featured in the Malvern Observer last month, after he managed to walk a mile for the first time in a long while. His efforts concluded with a trip to the pub for a well deserved pint.
