THREE care homes in Malvern will host a 1950s-themed community BBQ to mark 120 years since the foundation of the charity Friends of the Elderly.

The free event, titled ‘Memphis Meets Malvern’, will take place on Saturday,  August 24 from 2pm to 4pm across the sites of Davenham, Perrins House and Bradbury Court care homes.

Organisers said the event will include live music from an Elvis Presley tribute act, a Texas-style smoked barbecue, and a range of games and activities for residents, their families, and members of the local community.

Jo Bennett, general manager at Friends of the Elderly Malvern, said: “The residents enjoy community events and music, so we thought a 1950s-themed afternoon would be a great way to celebrate the charity’s milestone anniversary.”

Staff have encouraged attendees to wear 1950s-style clothing, and residents have been sharing their memories of the era in the lead-up to the event.

Activities coordinator Laura Smith said: “There’s been a lot of interest from the residents, especially around Elvis and the culture of the time. It’s sparked some great conversations.”

Friends of the Elderly was founded in 1905 and provides residential, nursing and dementia care at multiple locations across England.

The Malvern event is open to the public, and no booking is required.
