Malvern drivers urged to be more aware of sheep on the road

Malvern Editorial 6th Mar, 2017   0

DRIVERS are being urged to be more aware of sheep on the roads after ten sheep have already been killed this year.

Since December last year, ten sheep have been run over by vehicles on the Castlemorton to Coombe Green Road in Malvern.

Many more sheep were ‘put down’ after suffering injuries from drivers on Castlemorton Common last year.

A statement from West Mercia Police said: “We are appealing to motorists to be more aware that the area surrounding Castlemorton and Coombe Green is common land, and sheep are allowed to roam freely.

“Since last year we have seen approximately ten sheep killed by motorists and numerous others have suffered injuries from vehicle collisions that have resulted in them being humanely terminated.

“These sheep are part of the rural community and as it is common land they are grazing on they do occasionally tend to stray onto the road.

“We are asking that drivers be a little more aware of their surroundings and take care on rural roads.”
