Malvern drug dealers sentenced to jail

Malvern Editorial 13th Feb, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A PAIR who were caught with nearly £1,500 worth of Class A drugs when stepping off the train in Malvern have been jailed.

Charlotte Cull, 38 and from Pickersleigh Grove, and Mukesh Thapar, 26 and from Church Lane, Handsworth in Birmingham, were sentenced to four years and three years respectively at Birmingham Crown Court today (Thursday).

Both had previously admitted charges of possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.

The pair who were in a relationship at the time, were caught by police stepping off the train at Malvern Link Railway Station on August 22 last year.

Cull was carrying 46 wraps of cocaine and Thapar had 56 wraps of heroin on him.

The combined street value of the drugs was estimated at £1,460.

Cull had told the court she was dealing in order to pay off a drugs debt.

Following today’s hearing Det Con Jez Hazlewood, said inquiries were taking place into the pairs’ drug dealing in Malvern and further arrests could be made.

“We are very pleased with the outcome and hope the sentences serve as a warning to others involved in these types of offences.

“Malvern is a beautiful town and it shows that we will not tolerate people living here or coming in from outside the area to pedal drugs and spread misery in the community.

“Illegal drugs supply and misuse have a big impact on our neighbourhoods due to the acquisitive crime, such as burglary and theft, which often goes hand in hand with it.

“Breaking the cycle of supply and demand by taking out the dealers is one key component of our drugs strategy designed to combat this.

“Those involved in such offences can be sure that there will be no let-up in our war on drugs and, as today’s sentences illustrate, anyone caught is likely to lose their liberty.”
