THERE were memorable scenes of celebration when Malvern’s famous Worcestershire Beacon was lit to mark The Queen’s 90th birthday.

As part of a national celebration, the Malvern Hills beacon was one of hundreds to be lit to celebrate the occasion last night (Thursday).

A ceremony to light the beacon was led by Lord Lieutenant Patrick Holcroft and started at 8.30pm.

He was joined by special guests including Ian Hopwood, chairman of Worcestershire County Council, Barbara Williams, chairman of Malvern Hills District Council, Val Wood, chairman of Wychavon District Council and Mayor of Malvern Julian I’Anson.

According to social media users, the light could be seen from miles away.

More than 1,000 beacons were lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas Territories and a Commonwealth Country to celebrate the landmark birthday.
