Malvern homeless charity is looking for umpires to help with their summer netball tournament

MALVERN homeless charity Maggs Day Centre is hosting its second netball tournament in June, and is asking for volunteers to help umpire the event.

The tournament is open to female-only teams and mixed teams. There is a £60 registration fee, which will go directly to the charity.

There will also be opportunities for food, drink and stalls from other local businesses for the players and their family and friends to enjoy on the day as well.

Melissa Blewitt, fundraising, communications and relationships manager at Maggs Day Centre said: “After our first successful summer tournament last year, we’re bringing it back again for 2025 to raise funds to go towards supporting the homeless and vulnerable throughout the county.

“However we need more umpires to help us to keep the play as fun, but as safe as possible, so if anyone would like to be a part of a fun day, for charity, then please get in touch.”

Last year over £1,300 was raised for the charity.

Melissa added: “The demand for Maggs services is ever-growing, so any funds that we raise will be vital to help us continue supporting those experiencing homelessness throughout the county.

“It’s our 40th anniversary this year so a day of sport makes for a wonderful day to celebrate Maggs and raise awareness for our cause.”

Maggs works throughout Worcestershire and hosts two day centres in Worcester and Malvern, alongside four properties through the accommodation project, which temporarily houses rough sleepers and provides them with tailored support to further their journey.

The charity also has several specialist teams that work with service users, including an outreach team, an intensive transition support team for complex needs and a harm reduction team.

Alongside our support workers who work in the day centres to support service users and volunteers, which the charity relies on to maintain its high service levels.

The tournament takes place on Sunday June 22 at MSJ Sports Centre in Malvern.
