MALVERN businesses can now benefit from a sustainable tourism grant to help them adopt greener practices.
The Sustainable Tourism Grant Scheme sees Malvern Hills District Council provide funding of between £500 and £2,500 to help tourism and hospitality companies on their journey towards reaching environmental sustainability.
The grant must be match-funded by the business, using its own resources.
It also enables companies to review and identify ways to reduce their carbon emissions and improve their impact on the environment.
One of the businesses that have benefited from the grant so far is Hoppickers Rural Retreats, where the grant was used for a woodland walk environmental project.
Louise Wild, from Hoppickers, said the firm was delighted with the grant.
“Our project included cable installation to enable live footage of local wildlife, portable wildlife cameras, night vision glasses, coppicing woodland, creating a shelter and stacking wood to encourage more bugs and bees in a natural environment.”
The Sustainable Tourism Grant Scheme forms part of Malvern Hills District Council’s sustainable tourism programme, which aims for the district to become a recognised green tourism destination.
Coun Daniel Walton, Malvern Hills district Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism and Economic Development, said: “We are really pleased this opportunity is available for our local businesses.
“It is a great way to improve the impact on the environment for each business and for our district as a whole.”
