Malvern man gears up for 200 mile charity bike ride

Malvern Editorial 20th May, 2024   0

RESIDENTS at a Malvern care home are gearing up to cheer on a staff member who will be cycling 200 miles to raise money for the home’s charitable foundation.

Elgar Court’s head of maintenance, Paul Patchett, will join a team of other staff from across the care home’s operator – Barchester – to cycle from Carmarthen to Oxfordshire.

The funds raised through the four day cycle challenge will go towards supporting older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health problems.

Paul said: “I have been training really hard and looking forward to raising funds for this amazing charity.”

Residents, staff and local well-wishers will wave Paul off at 9.30am on June 20 from the home on St Andrews Road, Malvern, where the home will be offering refreshments to help raise funds.

Another chance to donate will come through the home’s Guess the Dulux Dog’s Name game which will take place between 8.30am and 9.30am. All donations will go to the foundation.

During the staff’s ‘mammoth’ challenge they will stop at 14 care homes across Barchester’s Central division to meet well-wishers, have a well-earned break and refuel before continuing on their way.

Sarah Cadwallader, general manager at Elgar Court said: “It is going to be a long and tiring four days in the saddle for all concerned which is why we’re asking our local community to come down and support the team on the day.

“We’re hoping to raise lots of money for some great causes. We know all the staff, residents, relatives and visitors will get behind the team at each of the homes along the way.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has helped so far, it really has been a real team effort.”
