A MAN has been arrested in connection with two burglaries within hours of each other thanks to vigilant residents.

The 21-year-old suspect from Malvern has been quizzed about break-ins to a home in Kempsey and another in Eckington on Thursday, May 1.

Someone broke into the Eckington property through the back door between 8.30am and 3.30pm searching the house but leaving without taking anything.

The Kempsey home on Old Road North was targeted between 12 midday and 2.30pm the same day where the thief similarly got in through the rear entrance and caused £500 worth of damage and stole jewellery valued at more than £2,500.

A number of witness soon came forward providing ‘vital’ information to the investigations which led to the arrest of the Malvern man who has now been released on police bail while officers carry out further inquiries.

Sgt Liz Warner said: “We would like to thank those members of the public who saw, what they believed, was suspicious behaviour and provided vital help with our inquiries.

“We want to stress the importance of vigilance and if anyone sees any suspicious behaviour in their community we urge them to contact the police immediately. Prompt action can make a huge difference when trying to trace those responsible for crimes.”

Anyone with further information on the incidents should contact Sgt Warner on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting incident references 404s 010514 (Eckington) and 351s 010514 (Kempsey).
