MALVERN cyclist Evie Richards put in a superb ride to take gold for Team England in the Moutain Biking at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
She finished the 32km course in just 1hr, 34mins and 59secs, beating Zoe Cuthbert of Australia into second by 47 seconds.
South Africa’s Candice Lill claimed bronze.
Evie had a tough battle to be fit for the games, suffering from Covid and a back injury in the run up to Birmingham 2022.
The high-octane and challenging course at Cannock Chase saw riders plummet down steep sections, avoiding rocks and tree stumps, pedal around smooth grassy parts of the course and take on uphill ascents.
Athletes got to test their bravery, fitness and endurance to the full as the route took competitors through some stunning countryside with spectators mingling among the trees to cheer Evie and her fellow racers on.
