MALVERN’S MP was among the ministers rising up the ranks with a promotion following Prime Minister Theresa May’s new year reshuffle.

Harriett Baldwin left her job as parliamentary under secretary at the Ministry of Defence to become a minister of state at the Foreign Office.

The West Worcestershire MP has been handed the chance to work across the Foreign Office and also the Department of International Development.

Her promotion continues a rapid rise up the ranks for the MP who was City Minister under David Cameron after the 2015 election having also served in the whips office.

Mrs Baldwin’s new role will see her work in departments headed by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Penny Mordaunt, International Development Secretary.

She is expected to take on the responsibilities of Rory Stewart MP as minister working across both departments with specific responsibility for Africa and African aid programmes.

ā€œIā€™m obviously delighted to be promoted into the new role working as a minister of state across the Foreign Office and the Department for International Development,ā€ Mrs Baldwin said.

ā€œI look forward to working on behalf of Global Britain, using our soft power to further peace and security at home and abroad.
