WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has urged local people to have their say as the Government consults on the future of Post Office services.
The MP has championed the protection of the Post Office network across her constituency, ensuring services were protected in areas including Upton-upon-Severn, Kempsey, Tenbury Wells, Lower Broadheath and Alfrick.
And Dame Harriett spoke in the House of Commons in support of rural Post Offices which are often the final shop in a community.
The Government has published a Green Paper which calls for people’s views on the future of the Post Office and will be used to develop future policy changes.
Dame Harriett said: “I have always championed the rural Post Office network and places like Alrick and Lower Broadheath have done amazing work to revive community provision.
“Post Office are often the final shop in a rural community and the last place where people can go for free cash withdrawals and other vital services.
“I am worried the Government is looking at plans to bolster urban Post Office provision at the expense of the rural network and I am encouraging people to have their say.
“It’s been a long-term battle of mine to help to keep as many Post Offices open as possible and this is an issue which I am confident local people will have strong views, which I hope they will share this summer.”
