Malvern MP encourages residents to nominate new Blue Plaque recipients

WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has called for suggestions to help mark the local heritage with a historic blue plaque.

The National Blue Plaque Scheme celebrates people from all walks of life who have made a significant contribution to human welfare or happiness, or have made an exceptional impact in their field, community or wider society.

Historic England manages the national scheme on behalf of the Government and local plaques mark the visits of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie and US President Franklin D Roosevelt.

A search has been kicked off to find more nominations for blue plaque sites and local people can submit ideas by visiting the Historic England website.

Dame Harriett said: “West Worcestershire already marks the achievements of composer Sir Edward Elgar and author CS Lewis but maybe people will want to mark the achievements of other people who have made a difference to our area.

“We have a deep and rich cultural heritage across the county and I encourage people to get their thinking caps on and share ideas of the places where blue plaques can be awarded.”

The public nomination period is now open with the window closing on Thursday, July 10.
