Malvern MP lobbies for schools

MALVERN’S MP Harriett Baldwin has lobbied central Government in a bid to secure more funding for schools in the town.

Mrs Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, has written to the education secretary Nicky Morgan after she met with headteachers throughout the county to discuss budget concerns.

That included The Chase Technology College, Hanley Castle High School in Worcester and Pershore High School.

Despite the Government having committed an extra £4.9million to Worcestershire last year, the county still remains one of the poorest funded in the country.

Worcestershire’s estimated fairer schools funding for 2015/16 of £298.2million sees them ranked 123rd out of 151 counties.

Mrs Baldwin said: “I have actively worked in Parliament for the last five years to try and secure a better funding deal for our local schools and we have made some steps towards sorting this problem with a £4.9million additional pot.

“I am grateful the headteachers took the time to meet with me and raise their concerns and I have written to the department and discussed this problem face-to-face with education secretary Nicky Morgan.

“Each school has already taken steps to make the best of their budgets but they still get a much poorer settlement each year compared to similar sized schools in Birmingham.
