Malvern MP welcomes new fast Covid test centre opening

MALVERN’S MP Harriett Baldwin welcomed further fast Covid testing capability after a new centre opened in Malvern.

Worcestershire County Council now has two testing sites – a lateral flow test centre at Malvern library and a PCR testing unit at the adjacent site in Victoria car park – which is for people who have Covid-19 symptoms and requires a pre-booked appointment.

The Malvern library centre has opened up allowing people to walk in and get tested with the results available in about 30 minutes.

The walk-in site has been opened up to allow anyone who needs to leave their home for work to get a test and is designed to help find people who have contracted Covid-19 but are not showing any symptoms.

Mrs Baldwin visited the new centre and chatted to staff which is open five days a week while the library is open.

“Worcestershire County Council is doing a great job offering more and more testing capacity which will allow people to have certainty about their health – especially those who are having to go into workplaces,” she said.

“Many more people have been vaccinated and more testing capacity is playing a crucial part of the plan to allow the economy to re-open and facilitate the return of many parts of our normal lives.

“The lateral flow test is quick and easy and I got my result in only a matter of minutes.

“I’m urging people who need to mix with others for work or those who plan to visit loved ones in care homes, to get into the habit of getting a covid test as we continue our battle to beat this virus.”
