A MALVERN musician has donated £300 of her concert funds to the ophthalmology department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Louise Vale, a professional violinist who also teaches, donated the cash to the hospital’s eye unit following a concert she recently held with pianist Tim Sidford in the town’s Christ Church.
Two of Miss Vale’s violin students, Louise Turner and John Hume, also took part in the event to help raise funds which will benefit patients in the county suffering from eye conditions.
A distinguished musician, Miss Vale has performed with many of the UK’s leading orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as recording for EMI and broadcasting for BBC Radio Three.
She has also performed in Germany, France, Spain and major national venues such as the Royal Albert Hall.
Tarun Sharma, lead consultant for ophthalmology said: “We’re honoured to receive donations like this from the public and it’s fantastic to see local people supporting our hospital.
“It’s also worth mentioning the amount of hours of organisation, planning and teaching Louise put in to making this concert happen to raise the funds for the department.”
Miss Vale said: “I wanted to continue supporting the eye department’s excellent work. Building on my previous donation last June, I’m pleased to have raised a total of £500 to date.
“I think we’re privileged to have such a good ophthalmology department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital under the expert leadership of Mr Sharma, who is genuinely caring towards his patients.”
Sara Ruck, a specialist glaucoma nurse, said: “Louise’s performance was wonderful and enchanting. It was great to go and watch the show and we feel honoured she has decided to donate this money towards the unit.”
