Malvern organisation scoops High Sheriff award

Malvern Editorial 20th Mar, 2025   0

MALVERN TOWN Help Centre has received an award by the current High Sheriff for the county, Andrew Manning-Cox at a special ceremony last month., writes Lydia Gee.

The High Sheriff of Worcestershire Awards recognise the work of individuals, community groups and voluntary organisations within Worcestershire.

The award was presented to Platform’s digital empowerment officer Tim Marsh and Matt White, Unity’s wellbeing and life skills advisor and aims to recognise the valuable services the help centre offers to the local community and how it appreciates residents by enhancing life within the community.

The centre is a one stop shop which helps customers get in touch with the Platform Housing Group through its live chat and portal facilities, as well as offering basic IT skills and signposting.

It also offers advice on preventing homelessness, finding work, debt advice and health and wellbeing.

More than 900 people benefitted from the services provided in the first three quarters of 2024/2025.

Examples include Nicholas Richardson, Platform’s community engagement officer, working with local councillor Beverley Nielson to arrange for dropped tactile kerbs to be installed.

These aim to decrease the risk of falls for disabled customers who are using scooters and ultimately give them better access to outdoor activities.

Platform’s investment project manager Chris Reed said: “We were really humbled to receive this prestigious award from the High Sheriff.

“Providing help and support to our communities is a vital part of the service we provide; it is an award that recognises our commitment to them and one which we are proud to receive

“We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our partners who make this possible.”

Their partners include the local police, Homes for Ukraine Liaison Officers, Maggs Day Centre, Unities, the Mayor of Malvern, Malvern Town Football Club and Citizens Advice.
