ACTIVITIES for people with learning disabilities are set to go on offer full-time in Malvern.
Work will soon be starting on a new purpose-built facility following a successful trial at the end of last year.
Heart of England Mencap has teamed up with Malvern Mencap and the 2nd Malvern Scout Group for the Pathway project, which will launch later in 2015 with three sessions a week initially.
A new annexe will be built at the Scout headquarters in Spring Lane where there will be leisure and learning opportunities for adults including cooking, keep fit, karaoke, drama and gardening.
Helena Wallis, chief executive of Heart of England Mencap, said: “Many people already access the existing day services delivered by the local authority across Worcestershire and we wanted to provide the opportunity to offer more alternatives to the existing services. We ran a number of sessions to introduce Malvern to Pathway and to show those with learning and physical disabilities in the town that they do have options.
“We were overwhelmed by the response – both in the number of people who came along and also by the positive impact they told us Pathway was having on their lives.
“Pathway is about focusing on abilities and not disabilities. We want to promote health and wellbeing and increase or maintain independence, building confidence and building friendships, and having a lot of fun along the way.”
