LOCAL neighbourhood policing teams in Malvern have been taking to the streets this week to combat knife crime through various engagement and preventative activities as part of the national Operation Sceptre anti knife crime campaign.

The week long campaign, running from May 15 to May 21, has seen police raise awareness in the community, particularly with children and young people, about the dangers of carrying a knife.

Anti Knife Crime Week, supported by Operation Sceptre, is a national police campaign aimed at ensuring residents’ safety from knife crime in communities around the country.

Officers have been collaborating with partner agencies to carry out community sweeps to clear outdoor areas of discarded sharp objects that could potentially be used as weapons.

The raid, was carried out on May 16 by Pickersleigh and Chase’s Safer Neighbourhood team with support from West Mercia Police’s Task Force and a police dog.

The Pickersleigh and Chase SNT said: “A big part of the role for neighbourhood Police officers and PCSO’s is high visibility foot patrols around their local areas, engaging with the public and collecting intelligence.

We want to make it as hard as possible for drug dealing to be conducted in the area.”

Malvern police also shared photographs of various knives surrendered or found during sweeps (pictured at top of article) on May 17.
