Malvern residents await arrival of Rickshaw Challenge tomorrow

THE WAIT is nearly over until the BBC One Show’s Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge makes its way to Great Malvern.

Residents will be flocking to Church Street at around 6.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday) to show their support for the team of six young people as they pedal 423 miles across the UK.

The team, who have all been supported by Children in Need funded projects, will be greeted by Pudsey Bear at Belle Vue Terrace at around 7pm and will then go live on The One Show’s programme.

It is hoped a large crowd will turn out to show their support and help raise money for Children in Need.

The charity raises funds to support disadvantaged young people across the UK and last year raised an incredible £60.7million.

Road closures will be in place during the day to help prepare for the arrival of the Rickshaw Challenge team, which will be overseen by staff from Malvern Hills District Council and Malvern Town Council.

From 11.30am, Abbey Road at the junctions with Church Street and Belle Vue Terrace, will be closed.

From 5pm to 9pm, a full closure of Church Street will be in place from the traffic lights at the junction with Graham Road and Grange Road to the junction with Belle Vue Terrace.

Diversions will be in place.

Coun David Chambers, leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We need to all come together to show our support and offer the warmest of Malvern Hills welcomes to the inspiring young people taking part in the Rickshaw Challenge.

“I would like to say thank-you to all those who have already donated to such a great cause.”

The Malvern Tourist Information Centre will be open until 8pm on Tuesday and staff will be available to assist with any enquiries.
