Malvern residents can fight off winter blues with festive advent challenge

Malvern Editorial 19th Nov, 2021   0

MALVERN residents can fight off the winter blues by taking part in a festive challenge returning this December to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing, writes Shnae Harrison.

The virtually-streamed Active Advent Challenge starts on December 1 and runs until Christmas Eve, with all ages are welcome to join.

Participants will receive a virtual advent calendar prior to signing up, which provides a link daily to access a new challenge.

In the hope that all challenges have been completed, each participant will receive a letter per challenge that will spell a festive phrase.

The participants able to complete the challenge and the phrase are in with the chance of winning a medal.

The daily challenges may consist of a mindfulness walk, having less screen time on devices, doing a light workout or making a health-kick smoothie.

Coun Natalie McVey Portfolio, Malvern Hills District Council’s holder for Housing and Health, said: “Looking after our wellbeing is as important, especially during the winter months as the dark nights are drawing in.

“The daily tips and activities are really positive and beneficial in all areas of our physical and mental wellbeing.”

Challenges cost £3 each to enter, which includes a medal awarded on completion (there is limited availability as only 20 medals up for grabs).
