A COUNTY sports charity is inviting Malvern residents to its annual golf day and gala dinner.
CG5, which was founded to promote participation in sport, will host the event at the Bank House Hotel this Friday, where snooker legend Willie Thorne will be the VIP guest speaker.
Golfers at the event will have the chance to learn from PGA professional and trick-shot specialist Ady Wheatcroft, gain tips from professionals on the course, and have the opportunity to use the latest swing and ball-flight technology.
The gala dinner will also feature music from Sally Potterton, a world-renowned violinist who has performed across the world, including at the Royal Albert Hall and for Jessie J and Madness.
County sports stars attending the event include seven-year-old golfing sensation, Jack Dirkin.
CG5 takes its name from former Worcester Warriors lock Craig Gillies, who is a trustee at the charity, and his number five jersey.
It has awarded £16,000 in sporting grants since being established last year.
Steve Edwards, a trustee and co-founder of CG5, said: “Our golf day and gala dinner has become a popular fixture in the calendar and we’ve already seen teams entering from across Worcestershire.
“The support people have shown us is tremendous.
“All the money we raise is put towards helping young people achieve and realise their sporting dreams.
“In the past two years we’ve helped both able-bodied and disabled athletes in a range of sports.
“To watch them kick on and prosper is fantastic and it’s driven us to raise even more this year.”
The event will run from 9am to 10pm and tickets cost £35 for the golf day, £40 for the gala dinner or £65 for both.
