Malvern residents urged to nominate community heroes for new awards event

Malvern Editorial 20th Oct, 2016   0

NOMINATIONS are now open for a new awards ceremony which will recognise dedicated members of the community.

The first Our Malvern Hills Community Awards will take place on Thursday, December 1 at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium – the home of Malvern Town Football Club.

The awards ceremony, organised by Malvern Hills District Council, will recognise individuals, projects, groups and organisations whose dedication and commitment has improved the lives and wellbeing of residents.

Nominations are being sought in six award categories – Safe and Sound, Improving Lives, Action in the Community, Cleaner and Greener, Young Person’s and Business in the Community.

The creation of the awards is part of Malvern Hills District Council’s five year plan and commitment to building stronger and healthier communities.

Coun David Watkins, portfolio holder for healthier communities on Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Through the creation of these awards we hope to shine a light on the range of people contributing, day in day out, to the vitality of the district in so many different ways.

“So often we take what these people do for granted and this will be a chance to say a small thank you for everything they do and hopefully inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

“We all know someone, or a group or organisation, doing wonderful things in our district so please take the time and nominate them so we can give them the recognition they deserve.”

Chris Pinder, managing director at Malvern Town FC, said: “It is a real privilege to be hosting the MHDC Community Awards at our clubhouse. Since the refurbishment, usage of the clubhouse by community groups has increased dramatically.

“Cultivating the community is high on MTFC’s agenda and hosting the awards is a great demonstration of how the local council and organisations can work together to deliver better facilities which enable better outcomes for Malvern’s communities.

“It’s going to be a very positive event and a celebration of what makes Malvern great.”
