THE FOURTH annual Malvern Rocks Festival saw 90 performances take place across ten venues in aid of two worthwhile causes.
The big event, which in previous years has raised more than £8,000 for the St Richard’s Hospice and the Acorns Children’s Hospice, took place between Friday (July 31) and Sunday (August 2).
Organiser Ralph Tittley said they were still counting the money they had collected but they were hoping it would be somewhere in the region £3,000 to £4,000.
The acts which took part in the festival played everything from punk to reggae and attracted hundreds of people to pack out the various venues, dotted about Malvern, to capacity.
The venues included The Nag’s Head, The Red Lion Inn, Malvern Town Football Club, The Great Malvern Hotel, Priory Park’s band stand, Abbey Archway, Oliver’s Malvern Wine Bar and The Unicorn Inn.
Mr Tittley said he thought the top act of this year’s event was home-grown band The White Feather Collective, while he added rock band Nuns of the Tundra and The Kitchen Island Band also proved themselves popular with audiences by putting on some memorable shows.
Mr Tittley said he and a mate started the event four years ago with some friends, who then retired the following year and left them too it. But he said each year the event had got bigger and bigger.
He added: “It has been absolutely fantastic and we have had really good feedback.
“Through collections, donations and profits from the sale of merchandise Malvern Rocks has been able to raise money for our chosen charities.
“Every Malvern Rocks badge, every CD and every wristband you buy means that money goes to these worthy charities.”
Mr Tittley said he would like to thank all the volunteers and everyone who had helped make this year’s event such a success as it could not have been done without them.
