A MALVERN school is celebrating a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating after the educational inspectorate previously deemed it required improvement.
Over Ofsted’s two day inspection of Malvern Wells CofE Primary School in June, pupils were observed as ‘feeling safe’, ‘thriving’ and ‘enjoying life’ at school.
In the report, published in September, the school was recognised for developing an ambitious curriculum, bolstered by high expectations from leaders for staff and pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
Pupils were regarded as well behaved, articulate, and enthusiastic with strong reading abilities.
All of them including those with special educational needs and disabilities are supported by staff, with learning and behavioural issues, while bullying is dealt with efficiently.
Opportunities are there for students to take part in a wide range of extra curricular activities and school trips.
Teachers closely monitor the performance of pupils, working closely with parents and carers and providing support for those at risk of falling behind in class.
New headteacher, Jen Alford, was praised for ‘tackling the issues’ identified in the previous inspection report with ‘great energy and good judgement’, securing the confidence and commitment of her staff.
Teachers know their subjects well, have strong professional relationships with pupils and each other and provide high quality pastoral care while helping students develop an understanding of the importance of different traditions and cultures.
Safeguarding was considered effective by inspectors, who deemed the governors ‘highly focused’ individuals who provide ‘effective oversight’ of the school.
Jen said: “In all we do, we strive to nurture the potential for the brightest future for all our children.
“The Ofsted result confirmed our belief in the improved direction of the school.
“We are passionate about seeing each individual learner grow into their full potential and we are confident that our curriculum, nurturing environment, extra curricular opportunities and culture enable them to do so.
“We looked forward to our continued journey which isn’t only about being good for Ofsted but being ‘good’ for each child, every day.”
