A SOAP star and a hit character in a top children’s television programme will turn on this year’s Christmas lights in Malvern tomorrow evening (Saturday).

Mark Moraghan, of Holby City and Coronation Street fame, and Andrew Agnew, PC Plum from Balamory, will flick the big switch to mark the countdown to Christmas at 6pm on Belle Vue Terrace.

Both men are starring in this year’s Malvern Theatres pantomime, Peter Pan, which runs from Thursday, December 10 playing Captain Hook and his sidekick Smee respectively.

The switch-on is part of the Great Malvern Christmas Festival day event with activities starting at 10am, including a food and craft market, Santa’s grotto, live music, refreshments, a parade of lanterns from 5.45 and more.

Mayor of Malvern Julian I’Anson said: “This will be a magical start to the Christmas season. I hope everyone has a marvellous day and evening, continuing on to great family Christmas’.”

Malvern Hills District Council is also offering free parking in all of its short and long stay car parks on every Friday and Saturday in the run up to Christmas.

Coun Phil Grove, leader of Malvern Hills District Council added: “We are thrilled to be able to offer free parking once again, and hope this will encourage people to shop in our wonderful town to support the great local businesses we have here.”
