TWO MALVERN shoplifters who have been on a recent ‘crime wave’ have been sentenced following multiple offences.
Natalie Cull and Mark Spragg were arrested by Malvern officers last week and charged with the offences.
Cull was sentenced the following day, with her 8-week suspended sentence extended to an 18-month suspended sentence.
She was also served with a supervision order for 18 months.
Spragg was remanded in custody until yesterday (December 7), where he was jailed for 36 weeks with three further offences still to be heard in late January.
Police said Cull and Spragg have been on a ‘two-person crime wave’ across Malvern for several months and they have been arrested many times recently.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “They have been arrested a number of times recently and each time continued to commit shoplifting offences after being released from court.
“The custodial sentence for Spragg is a great result and sends out a message to thieves, we take shoplifting offences seriously and it evidences that the courts will enforce custodial sentences to repeat offenders.
“The 18-month suspended sentence and supervision order issued to Cull will hopefully act as a deterrent to her offending behaviour and also means a likely custodial sentence if she does commit any further offences in that time.”
Malvern Safer Neighbourhood teams are stepping up patrols and conducting regular operations in the area in the build-up to Christmas.
