A CHARITY in Malvern is celebrating the success of their first-ever London Marathon runner.
Darren Huggins, from Droitwich Spa, ran the marathon on Sunday to fund-raise and raise awareness of Malvern Special Families which provides clubs and play schemes for children and young people with disabilities.
He crossed the finish line hand in hand with his partner Jo Tyrner in six hours and 19 minutes, raising more than £2,500 for charity in the process.
Mr Huggins said: “Life is about memories – and running the London Marathon for Malvern Special Families was a great one.
“Jo and I ran together and finished hand in hand.
“Thank you for the opportunity to run for a great local charity.”
The couple have spent the past year training for the London Marathon and fundraising together, hosting a successful charity music night in Worcester for their chosen charities.
This was Jo’s first marathon which she ran on behalf of The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of her mum.
Cassie Zoro, community fund-raiser for Malvern Special Families, added: “We are delighted that Darren and his partner Jo have completed the London Marathon.
“This is a fantastic achievement and a historic moment for our charity.
“This year Malvern Special Families is celebrating its 30th birthday and it’s brilliant that Darren has become the first person to run the London Marathon on behalf of the charity.
“A huge thank you and congratulations goes to Darren who has done a brilliant job raising awareness about our charity.”
