Malvern strikes gold again with Heart of England In Bloom award

Malvern Editorial 28th Sep, 2024   0

MALVERN has once again been commended for its stellar efforts to make a positive impact to its surroundings through horticulture, environment and community action.

The town has been awarded gold in this year’s Heart of England in Bloom competition which recognised Malvern’s ‘care and attention’ to In Bloom’s values.

The aims of the Heart of England in Bloom are to encourage local communities to improve and care for their local environment through imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers, conservation and recycling projects and to eliminate eyesores that blight our streets such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.

Praise was given for the care and attention given by the Town Council to the maintenance of planted areas and to the beautifully kept hanging baskets.

For the annual well dressing activities co-ordinated by Malvern Spa Association, the pride of place demonstrated by The Malvern Sign in Rose Bank Gardens and the trails, maps, leaflets and information boards which reinforce and promote the town’s attractions.

Special mention was given to the superb restoration of Great Malvern railway station, the newly created and popular radar museum and to Malvern Cube which the judges referred to as ‘an important feature in the town which helps to raise awareness of horticultural activities’.

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr David Mead and the Malvern in Bloom Chairman, Cllr David Watkins were delighted to attend the awards ceremony to pick up the award on behalf of the town.

This year’s score of an incredible 96 out of 100, is an improvement for the town by 2 points from last year’s result.

Charles Porter, operations manager at Malvern Town Council said: “This is an excellent result for Malvern, and well deserved by the Town Council staff, the In Bloom volunteers and all of those from partnership organisations within the town who put such a lot of hard work and pride into what they do.”

The judges’ visit concluded with a reception at the new community hub building in Victoria Park which was positively recognised as a centre both in and for the community and also as an area for future development.
