MALVERN Theatres Players will mark the 200th anniversary of the Royal Shakespeare Company with a weekend of ‘Shakespeare, Italy and Rome’.
Shakespeare scholar and lecturer Amelia Marriette will present the new event at the Coach House Theatre in Malvern on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
A light-hearted look will be taken at The Bard’s obsession with Italy as well a serious of illustrated talks will focus on Shakespeare’s use of classical sources and look at extracts of the playwright’s Italian works on film and on stage.
The event also looks at the importance of Ancient Rome in the western world and, with Shakespeare’s texts, discusses how much Britain is indebted to the Romans today.
