MALVERN Town Council has defended the significant amount of money it spends on its attendance registers for official meetings.

It has been confirmed the town council spent £447 on three hardback register books equating to £149 each.

At last week’s meeting councillors criticised the council spending this much and Coun Jeremy Thomas urged the council to stop spending like it were a ‘Rolls Royce firm’.

He said: “It’s a serious problem which needs to be examined. We have to run on the preset of what we can afford.”

Town clerk Linda Blake defended the move saying the books are custom made and will ‘last much longer’ than smaller and cheaper ones.
