Malvern Town FC to host fundraiser for first time marathon runner

Malvern Editorial 2nd Feb, 2017   0

A SPECIAL fundraising evening at Malvern Town Football Club will be held later this week to help a first time London Marathon runner support a charity ‘close to his heart’.

James Ireson will be hosting an entertainment-filled evening on Saturday at the Langland Avenue-based club to support the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) – the charity he will be representing at this year’s London Marathon on Sunday, April 23.

He has raised £657 of his £1,800 target so far for the DSA which aims to help people with Down’s Syndrome live full and rewarding lives.

Headlining the event will be The Vibe who will play a blend of pop, rock, soul, funk and disco covers from the artists of today and yesterday.

A fantastic array of raffle prizes are also up for grabs including a Spa voucher for two, a tour of the Morgan Motor Company factory on Pickersleigh Road and a signed Arda Turan Barcelona FC shirt.

Entry to the event is free but James will be asking for donations, no matter how big or small, and will be happy to sell anybody a raffle ticket at £5 a strip.

James said: “The Down’s Syndrome Association is a charity extremely close to my and my family’s hearts.

“There are are a lot of good people working for the charity. They train midwives in local hospitals, campaign and raise awareness, help families with worries or questions, create opportunities for children to play sport and connect adults with Down’s Syndrome who want to work with employers who want to recruit them.

“It’s incredibly valuable work for families who live with Down’s Syndrome every single day.

“Running the London Marathon represents the toughest challenge I’ll ever face. I’m really not a fan of running, but those 26 miles and all the training miles I’ll be putting in too are a way for me to acknowledge that great work.”
