A MALVERN woman is jumping out of a plane to raise money for charity in memory of her father who lost his life to pancreatic cancer.
Laura Todd will complete the parachute jump for Pancreatic Cancer UK on Saturday, June 10.
Her father, Brian Willis, was the founder of Willis Wescott, a roofing merchant based in Worcester and sadly lost his life to cancer on February 1, 2023, just 14 weeks after his diagnosis.
Laura said: “Despite my love of aircraft, I never thought I’d see the day that I’d decide to throw myself out of one, especially with my overwhelming fear of heights.
“I was able to tell my dad I was doing this before he died and he looked at me like i was some sort of crazy fool.
“I will be eternally grateful for any donations however small, as not only is this a massive challenge for me but a very worthy charity to help fund and fight this dreadful cancer.”
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers. 80 percent of people are diagnosed too late, mainly due to such vague symptoms with the average life expectancy being 4 to 6 months.
So far Laura has raised more than £4,800 for the cancer charity, smashing her original fundraising goal of £1000.
A new clinical study to develop a breath test to detect pancreatic cancer has made a breakthrough and Laura hopes her fundraiser will help boost much needed funding for the study.
