A MALVERN mountain biker has become the first national champion in two different riding disciplines.
Hattie Harnden was crowned national champion in both the downhill and enduro races at the British National Championships.
This achievement marks Hattie as one of the most multi-talented athletes the sport has seen. Hattie is 17 x national champion having competed in Cyclo-Cross, Enduro, Cross Country and Downhill.
By the age of 20, she became one of the youngest ever Elite EWS Winners finishing fourth overall. In 2024, Hattie has secured two national titles in downhill and enduro.
Downhill mountain biking is all about speed and precision. Riders tackle steep, challenging courses filled with technical obstacles such as rocks, roots, and jumps—all while racing the clock.
The goal is simply to get down the course as fast as possible. Downhill races are intense, usually lasting a few minutes. Enduro races, on the other hand, are multi-stage events.
They’re spread out over a longer course, often taking several hours to complete making enduro a more all-around test of both fitness and technical ability.
Hattie’s talent to seamlessly switch between downhill and enduro racing has set her apart from her peers.
“It’s amazing to be crowned national champion in two mountain bike disciplines” said Hattie after clinching both titles.
“I managed to hold on to the downhill sleeve for another year and now I’ve claimed the enduro one too so I’m pretty chuffed.”
”Hattie’s dual championship cements her reputation as one of the best females in mountain biking as she gears up for the final EDR World Cup race in Loudenvielle on 6th September where she is chasing the Overall EDR World Series title.”
