Malvern's Community Action charity receives £900 boost from councillor's divisional fund

WORCESTERSHIRE County Council has donated £900 to boost the work of Malvern charity Community Action’s volunteer centre.

Malvern’s representative for the council, Coun Beverley Nielsen, offered the sum from her divisional funding towards the recently established centre which has been set up to coordinate volunteers for the district.

Community Action has been coordinating various volunteer opportunities across the region and plans to hold a volunteering expo to raise the profile of volunteering and promote opportunities and community groups in the region.

The expo will be held in Malvern during National Volunteers Week between June 1 and 7.

Community Action Malvern offers a range of services to the local community including buses, passenger car services, days out, coffee and tea meet ups, film clubs and foodbank deliveries to residents.

The charity also provides practical skills workshops for the ‘Men’s Shed’ which encourages socialising and learning new skills including woodworking.

Coun Nielsen said: “It was fantastic to meet the Community Action Malvern team. I’d like to thank Colin Haden and Kate Walton for introducing me.

“The team are doing great work to help so many people in Malvern, including the vulnerable and elderly.

“I applaud their work and am so pleased to support their latest initiative.”

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer or helping out at Community Action Malvern should email Liz Robinson at [email protected] to find out more.
